Graduate 2023 | Rooms Division Manager | InterContinental Hotel Houston, Texas
“I moved from India to Ireland in 2018 to pursue a Bachelor of business studies and International hotel management from Shannon College, affiliated with the National University of Ireland, Galway and graduated in March 2023.
It was a great experience filled with lots of learning and opportunities for my career. As part of the curriculum, I got the opportunity to do my final year placement with IHG, USA and the program was designed and executed to enhance the potential of the hospitality industry students in senior management roles. All this was possible with the help of our college. Being an international student, getting a muti-cultural global experience in the industry, has expanded my career options. After a year of training as a Rooms Division Manager, I will be returning to the same property of InterContinental Hotel in Houston, Texas, as a Rooms Division manager. The college has a very strong alumni network across the globe and lives by its ethos of keeping the contact. And I’m very happy and proud to be a part of our Shannon Family. ”
Graduate 2023 | Reservations Manager | The Fleet Hotel, Dublin
“I’m a graduate of Shannon College, part of University of Galway and I graduated in 2023.I did my final year placement in The Fleet Hotel, Dublin where I am currently working as Reservations Manager.
I started my time at the Fleet back in summer of 2022 and was hired as a graduate trainee manager. During my placement I mainly focused on developing my front office and reservations skills. Few months into the job, I had the opportunity to start working as a part time Duty Manager. A typical day as a duty manager would include overseeing the flow of customer service in various departments and making sure there is a smooth, consistent and clear chain of communication between each department such as restaurant and kitchen, reception and housekeeping. My time working in the front office and reservations department I have had the opportunity to I take over the day to day operations of the front office department, along with making SOP’s, weekly rosters, and training and counselling the team. Three months post-graduation I was promoted to the position of reservations manager, my current role at the hotel is very revenue centric where I’ m working towards striking a balance between maximising revenue and ensuring that guest request are met before their arrival to make their stay with us as pleasant as possible. I will always cherish and remember my time in Shannon where I’ve not only received academic learnings but also practical experience along with the constant support for the teaching faculty at Shannon. Shannon is indeed your ‘passport to the world’.”

“I have had the distinct pleasure to work directly with the placement team at Shannon School of Hotel Management for many years, in particular with Elaine Giltinane. I have found Elaine and the team exceptional to work with throughout the entire placement process. I am very passionate about giving students an opportunity to grow their experience by given them the ability to work abroad. I have found it also helps them grow their management career at an accelerated pace.
Shannon supports that vision and really deliver exceptionally qualified graduate students, that quickly grow into managerial roles while completing their final placement year. We have many Shannon graduates working with us globally as a result of our relationship with Shannon School of Hotel Management and of course the graduates’ abilities from their excellent schooling, the really are exceptionally well prepared to enter the industry. I look forward to a continue partnership with this school in the years to come.’

Marriott International
Shannon College of Hotel Management has been a longstanding partner of Marriott International for many years, with Shannon graduates in many areas of the business, including roles throughout our hotels from placement students, those on our management program Voyage, to General Managers and in above property corporate office roles including discipline leaders and Area Vice Presidents
I have been involved in recruitment of graduates for Marriott’s Voyager program for over 20 years and am always impressed by the calibre of Shannon students each year – they have a very strong grounding in the academics whilst also having hands on operational experience gained during their two placement years. The combination of both delivers well rounded highly employable hospitality graduates, equipped for the workplace and the industry. I myself am a past student of the College and have ‘kept the contact’ in the nearly 30 years since graduating myself. The College upholds very high standards and a work ethic that last long past graduation – it is said ‘you may leave Shannon but Shannon doesn’t leave you’. This ethos has certainly helped springboard my own career. Shannon College of Hotel Management is a special place, where students are nurtured and pastoral care is very strong. This enables student to make the most of their time in Shannon, grow and develop, ready for a smooth transition to the world after studies. I cannot compliment the College enough on the world class graduates it prepares every year for industry. At Marriott, we look forward to continuing our partnership together for many years to come.

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group
I have had the pleasure to work with Shannon College of Hotel Management for the last 8 years in my capacity of Director of HR for Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park London, and more recently in my role of Director of Group Talent Acquisition of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group.
During these years I have found the teachers and faculty members of a very high quality, truly caring about students, their education, and always providing support that goes over and above. The curriculum of Shannon College of Hotel Management offers the perfect balance of theoretic learning and practical learning. The students are also thought more of the soft skills when it comes to expected behaviours in hotels, teamwork and generally building rapport. We have been fortunate enough to hire a great number of Shannon students upon graduation, many of whom I am still in touch with, and they have been very successful in their professional careers. They are well-prepared for the real world of work, always go the extra mile and show a genuine interest in hospitality. I very much value the great relationship Mandarin Oriental and SCHM have built up over the years and look forward to a successful partnership for many years to come.

I graduated from Shannon College of Hotel Management in 2000 and joined Marriott International at this time. My career to date has spanned nearly 25 years with the one organization at eight different properties in five unique locations thanks to the fine foundation training I had received in Shannon College of Hotel Management.
What I have experienced both as a young graduate of the college and now as a General Manager seeing other young graduates entering the industry, is that Shannon College graduates tend to have a perfect balance of academic knowledge and industry experience often attained by their intensive placements opportunities in UK, Europe and further afield with some of the world’s best hotel companies. Students with a natural passion and flair for hospitality do extremely well in the college thanks to the natural structure of the courses provided. Young individuals who have a passion for people, a dynamic environment and an entrepreneurial intuition should certainly consider Shannon College of Hotel Management as a starting point in a profession that gives back far more than what is invested. I know when I joined Marriott back in 2000, we had perhaps only 2-3 students joining the organization and that number has now swelled to 20-30 students annually which is an amazing testament to the college which has alumni in all corners of the world.
